Metastability and stochastic processes

September 21st - 23rd 2011, Ecole des Ponts ParisTech

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together scientists from the applied probability community to discuss problems related to the longtime behaviour of stochastic processes used in various fields of the stochastic modelling: molecular dynamics, numerical statistical mechanics, population dynamics, etc. In particular, we would like to present recent tools which have been developed for the numerical simulation and the mathematical analysis of metastable stochastic processes. We also intend to cover related topics: quasi-stationary distributions, non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, coarse-graining techniques in molecular dynamics, for example.

Program.

The workshop will consist in four three hour lectures, which will be given by:

Anton Bovier (University of Bonn) Metastability: a universal approach through potential theory

Patrick Cattiaux (Université de Toulouse) Long time behaviour of stochastic processes

Pierre Collet (Ecole Polytechnique) Quasi stationary distributions for stochastic processes and dynamical systems

Luc Rey-Bellet (University of Massachusetts) Thermodynamics of non-equilibrium steady states, entropy production and fluctuations

and thirty minute contributed talks. These are the speakers who confirmed their participation: Florent Barret (Ecole Polytechnique), Jan Maas (University of Bonn), Jean-Bernard Maillet (CEA), Georg Menz (MPI Leipzig), Jean-Christophe Mourrat (EPFL) and Augusto Teixera (ENS Paris).

A poster session is planned on thursday, noon. Please send an e-mail to
lelievre@cermics.enpc.fr to propose a poster. Here is a preliminary list of the posters which will be presented.

Registration:

People interested in attending the workshop are asked to send an e-mail to lelievre@cermics.enpc.fr to register (registration is free, and lunches will be offered, deadline for registration: 1st September). We may
exceptionally contribute to the traveling or lodging costs of the participants if necessary, upon request in the registration e-mail (deadline: 30th June).

Location:

The workshop will take place at the Ecole des Ponts ParisTech, Marne-la-Vallée (close to Paris). This is how to get there.
