Micromagnetic microstructures - a paradigm for multiscale problems.

Abstract :

Ferromagnetic materials show complex magnetization patterns which involve many length scales from1 nm to almost  1 mm. Controlling these patterns is of crucial technological importance. The simple, yet subtle,  mathematical structure and the wealth of experimental data make magnetic materials at the same time  an excellent model system to study multi-scale problems.

In this talk I will discuss the role of analysis in studying multiscale problems in magnetic materials, with emphasis on recent results in thin films.
