One important model for rarefied
plasmas is the Vlasov-Maxwell system,
and many numerical schemes designed for this problem combine a Finite
Element solver for the Maxwell system with a Particle (PIC) solver for
the Vlasov equation.
Unfortunately, the conservation of charge which is a fundamental (and physical) property
of the continuous model, is usually lost in these schemes.
In this talk I will show how to derive from the continuous level a natural formulation for
the discrete coupling between the solvers, yielding charge conserving schemes.
Since the formulation is new, some practical hints for an efficient coding will also be given.
