3 Scientific and technologic valorization

3.1 Short description of the main scientific results

The value of a mine is the maximal sum of discounted profits during the course of its exploitation. Solving such an intertemporal optimization problem collides with numerical difficulties due to the large size of these management problems and to their complexity (investment, exploitation, uncertainties, etc.). Numerous heuristics already exist, in particular in operational research. Our contribution has focused on analyzing these problems with methods stemming from optimal control and from functional analysis, less wide-spread.

3.4 List of thesis developed in the project (mentioning if it is a PhD or a master thesis)

3.5 List of patents (in study, accepted) related to the project

3.6 Cooperation developed with the private sector during the project

3.7 Does the STIC-AmSud Program permitted to develop other relevant initiatives (research projects, European programs, bilateral programs, cooperation agreements, Co-tutelles...)?

3.8 Future perspectives of collaboration between the partners of the project

Several papers have started to be written jointly. Some have been sent to scientific journals, others need to be improved. Therefore, collaboration goes on after the ending of the STIC-AmSud program OVIMINE.

4 Program observations

4.1 Point out the strong points of the program

The STIC-AmSud program OVIMINE has permitted to turn scientific contacts into scientific collaborations, by contributing to support meetings and workshops. As a consequence, several papers have started to be written jointly.

4.2 Point out the weaknesses of the program

Despite numerous sollicitations, the mining industry in Perú and in Chile has not answered and, therefore, a direct link with industries has not been achieved.
